Stand out with grace. The cidada’s wings are its best accessory, and now, you can wear a piece that captures that same beauty. Famed for their songs and unearthly lifespans, cicadas symbolized life and immortality for the ancient Greeks. Wear that badge of prosperity in everyday life to show your determination, and as a new kind of good luck charm.
Designer Janet Mavec spent hours studying the intricacies of the cicadas’ delicate, translucent wings, and fitting them to matching chains and styles. Each cicada wing piece is specifically designed to bring out the details of each individual wing.
These delicate wings can be worn with the most delicate of fabrics: satin, silk, and chiffon are all worthy backdrops. A short chain of cicada wings and amber fits in just right on an elegant night out.
Cicadas have a 17-year life cycle, which they spend mostly underground.
Because of their periodic life cycle, the ancient Greeks saw cicadas as a symbol of resurrection.
Janet loved the cicadas’ wings, but the lovely, translucent appendages looked like they belonged to an insect far more delicate than the beady-eyed, fat-bodied cicada. So, she decided to sketch her jewelry designs with just the wings in mind.
